The Russian military conducted flights of long-range Tu-95 bombers near Alaska professionally and with respect to the national airspace of the United States, but Pentagon noted the difficulties with servicing the aircraft, US Navy officer Jeff Davis said.
According to him, for the first time, Russia conducted such flights for the last 2.5 years. "I can not guess what their intentions are," Davis said.
He explained that problems with servicing this type of bomber caused a break in flights. "This can serve as an explanation for why they took a break," the Pentagon spokesman added.
Davis clarified that the Tu-95 remained outside the US national airspace and from this point of view it was all right when they were intercepted.
Earlier Russian strategic bombers four times approached the coast of Alaska. Because of this, on April 17 and 18, American planes were raised to the sky - two F-22 fighter-bombers and the E-3 AWACS radar reconnaissance aircraft.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation informed that long-range aviation pilots regularly carry out flights over the neutral waters of the Arctic, Atlantic, Black Sea and the Pacific Ocean according to the approved plan.
