The White House explained the lack of handshake Trump and Merkel
White House spokesman Sean Spicer explained to the German edition of Speiegel why US President Donald Trump refused to shake hands with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
On Friday, Merkel visited the White House to meet with the US President. During the protocol shoot, the journalists offered the leaders of the United States and Germany to shake hands. Merkel turned to Trump, also offering to shake hands, but Trump did not react to her words, continuing to sit in the chair.
"I'm not sure he [Trump] heard the question," Spicer said. According to him, the incident occurred due to misunderstanding.
However, Trump shook Merkel's hand at the entrance to the White House. A photo of the handshake was later published on Facebook by the US President.
